About Erin Alexander / Akofa Oyin

For more than two decades, Erin Alexander, also known as Akofa Oyin, has worked at the intersection of ecological design, cultural wisdom, and spiritual ecology. As an initiated Iyalocha of 22 years and a Master Feng Shui Consultant, she brings together ancestral knowledge and environmental practice in ways that reconnect people to land, spirit, and place.

Erin is the founder of Funki Shui Design, a practice that blends Feng Shui, geomancy, and African Diaspora spiritual traditions to help individuals and communities create spaces that support wellbeing, balance, and sustainability. Her work explores how environments influence human life — from the arrangement of a room to the stewardship of entire landscapes.

Through Funki Shui, Erin also develops plant-based products, educational tools, and resources that help people bring sacred ecology into everyday life. These offerings draw on herbal traditions, spiritual practice, and practical design principles to support healing spaces in homes, gardens, and communities.

Erin is also the creator of Nature Connect, an environmental education curriculum that introduces students, educators, and families to ecological science through cultural stories, plants, and hands-on learning. The program bridges STEM learning with cultural ecology, helping young people understand their relationship to nature and their responsibility to protect it.

In addition to her design and educational work, Erin founded the Orisha Network for Issues on Land and Environment, an initiative that explores the connections between African Diaspora spiritual traditions and environmental stewardship. The network highlights sacred plant knowledge, cultural land practices, and community-based solutions to ecological challenges.

Throughout her career, Erin has led environmental programs, spoken at conferences, developed educational curriculum, and worked on projects ranging from sustainable landscapes to community-based renewable energy initiatives.

At the heart of her work is a simple belief: every place holds memory, meaning, and possibility. When design, culture, and ecology work together, environments can support not only human wellbeing, but the health of the Earth itself.

“My mission is to restore balance between Earth and spirit through sacred design, nature education, healing products, and environmental advocacy.”

“Cultural ecology is a methodological approach to investigate the relationship between humans and environments, considering culture as a key to understanding the evolutionary process, differently from other living beings.”
